Atkins Diet Recipes: Buffalo Wings

2 Atkins Diet Recipes: Buffalo WingsThese wings are some of the best reasons to go on the Atkins Diet. They are completely legal for all phases of the diet and absolutely delicious. The Diet Coke is a unique ingredient, but it really does the trick. I think by adding the wings to the simmering sauce, the collagen helps thicken the sauce as well.

Ingredients
3 pounds chicken wings, separated at joints, tips discarded
1 cup Louisiana-style hot sauce (Franks Hot Sauce recommended)

1 can Diet Coke with Splenda
1 tsp cayenne pepper, or to taste
1 tsp ground black pepper, or to taste
1/2 tsp Thyme
1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1/2 TBS Dried Chopped Onions

Instructions:
* Cut the wings into pieces.
* Mix other ingredients into large pot and start simmering.
* Add wings to pot to give flavor
* Heat Oil to 350-375F degrees
* Add wings to fryer and cook until done (12-14 minutes)
* Add wings back to Buffalo sauce and coat thoroughly

Duration : 0:10:6

You can probably do …
You can probably do a beer version of this too! Use a low carb beer instead of the diet coke..whaddaya think? :)

I typically use …
I typically use Corn Oil, but I prefer to use peanut oil. The cost is a bit prohibitive for peanut oil, but it performs the best. There are some oils I won’t use, like canola. These are mainly due to past history as industrial oils (rapeseed oil) and perhaps not best for human consumption.

Hey unless I missed …
Hey unless I missed it, what kind of oil did you use?

Let me preface …
Let me preface everything by saying I think Induction until goal weight or using Hydroxycut (check out my supplement video on why I think that) are bad ideas, but we each make our own decisions. To your question, yes you should eat whenever you want, and artificial restrictions like no food after X time only cause hassle and pain.

My suggestion with your schedule is to eat when you are hungry with the understanding that under-eating or simply grazing (eating for something to do) are both bad.

I actually typed in …
I actually typed in a general question about the Atkins diet and it sent me to this video haha, but maybe you can help me anyways.
Question:
I’m on Atkins and I stay at induction phase until I reach the weight I won’t. The only thing I transition to is the salad after 2 weeks. Is it okay for me to eat ANYTIME i want as long as I stay within my carb limits in 24 hours? My schedule is horrendously messed up, I sleep whenever I can basically, and I take Hydroxycut to help.
Thanks.

Sorry, I am not …
Sorry, I am not believer in the Splenda conspiracy theory in the limited amount I eat.

kissygalpal March 7, 2010 at 9:24 pm

Splenda is bad for …
Splenda is bad for you too.

bowulf March 7, 2010 at 9:24 pm

It is really …
It is really difficult to find, but here are a couple other brands sweetened with Splenda instead — Diet RC Cola and Diet Rite. Many house brands of soda are also going to Splenda or sucralose — just check the ingredients.

cecil942 March 7, 2010 at 9:24 pm

thank you, Im going to try this out real soon. Ill post back with my results. thanks man

bowulf March 7, 2010 at 9:24 pm

Actually even …
Actually even better than baking is the original recipe called for grilling. I have done this exact same recipe grilling both outdoors and indoors on a George Foreman grill. You could certainly season cooked breasts with this sauce too. I personally like the frying method best as it seals the moisture in the best, but it is versatile recipe too.

royal660 March 7, 2010 at 9:24 pm

I dont fry, but …
I dont fry, but could the wings be baked? how about making boneless with breast, then baking or roasting?

bowulf March 7, 2010 at 9:24 pm

Any diet I could …
Any diet I could eat wings and lose the weight, I am happy with it. It certainly worked for me, and the only thing you have to ask when ordering out is the “are they breaded?” question.

PitFiend2001 March 7, 2010 at 9:24 pm

Ive been trying to …
Ive been trying to lose weight for a few months now and i love wings. I might try this.

drayzinman17 March 7, 2010 at 9:24 pm

Yeah cool that …
Yeah cool that explains a lot. I’ll definitely visit Buffalo and try some Wings on my trip to America next year.

Made these wings this past weekend. I cut the coke down to 1 cup, which made them super spicy. Baked them at 425 for 25 minutes, then popped them under the broiler to crisp them up. They were great! Thanks for the easy recipe. A definite keeper.
