It is never healthy or safe to TRY to lose weight during pregnancy after the first trimester. Many women lose weight during the first trimester because of morning sickness, but this is not an excuse to TRY losing weight. Women of your weight will gain less during pregnancy than women in the "healthy" weight range, and if you are dedicated to eating healthy without scrimping on protein and the nutrients your body needs to maintain itself and a pregnancy, then you might actually lose a little bit through the second trimester as well. Because I don't know your height, I can't say what weight range you're in, but I'm guessing you're overweight at this point, not obese. Even obese women can expect to gain a little during pregnancy, typically during the third trimester when the baby is gaining the most weight. Don't feel bad though if you end up gaining during the second trimester as well, however. If you are eating healthy and getting a bit of exercise, your weight gain will be normal and healthy for you and your baby.

Your healthy eating program is probably not for pregnant women, but if it is, I'd love to hear about it and get a link or something. Eating healthy while you're pregnant is different than eating healthy any other time. Your dietary needs are different because you have to support a growing fetus as well as maintain yourself. Eating healthy during pregnancy is the best way to do it anyhow, so long as the healthy eating program is geared toward pregnancy. Talk with your healthy eating group and find out what changes you should make for your pregnancy.

So... you shouldn't be TRYING to lose weight while you are pregnant, but so long as you are eating healthy, with your pregnancy needs in mind, you might just lose a little more weight before you start healthily gaining for your pregnancy. If you don't lose any more weight though, that's still a good thing. If you are "overweight," you should still gain 15-25 pounds during pregnancy, and if you are "obese" you should still gain at least 15 pounds during pregnancy. This is considered the healthy weight-gain. So... if you're "overweight," you just might gain back all the weight you've already lost in the healthy eating group, and that would be great.

Remember that eating healthy while pregnant will mean that you will have an easier time losing excess weight and pregnancy weight after birth, especially if you're breastfeeding. (I was 25 pounds overweight when I got pregnant with my son, I gained about 15 pounds through my pregnancy, and lost all of it within about 6 months just from eating healthy and breastfeeding). Also remember, when you are breastfeeding, your body will have different needs than it did when you were pregnant or before you got pregnant, so you'll need to keep these in mind for your healthy eating plan too.

You should never feel like you're starving while you're pregnant. It can be hard to feel like you're getting enough food during pregnancy, but eating healthy will help you get what you need and help you feel full.
References :
childbirth educator, doula, mom, pregnant with #2.

News Flash: This isn't about you anymore. If you couldn't eat due to morning sickness then that's one thing... but now that you feel better you need to make an effort to gain. You are supposed to gain weight now, not lose it! This is for the health of your child. You can worry about losing weight after the baby is born. To continue to diet for the purpose of losing weight during your pregnancy is the height of self-centeredness and isn't something a good, responsible mother would do. Your precious program can help you lose the weight afterwards.
References :
first you are pregnant-expect to gain some weight. If you are losing it because you are not able to eat due to morning sickness then that is a different thing then dieting and not eating. You should be eating a healthy filling diet for your babies sake. Im not saying you need to gain 50 pounds or anything but you should be thinking about the baby's needs right now before the fact that you just dont want to gain weight. You can always lose it again AFTER you have the baby.
References :
35 wks preggo

Eating healthy during pregnancy is never a bad idea. As long as you're not eliminating any food groups, or dropping below 1,200 calories (which would be raised during pregnancy. Your doctor can recommend a healthy amount of calories for you to stick to).

Many over weight women don't gain a pound during pregnancy. Some women gain 5, some 25, and some 65. As long as your eating healthy, taking your prenatals, drinking plenty of water, and exercising, I don't see any harm in following a healthy eating program.

Log your diet for a couple weeks and bring it to your Ob at your next appointment and see what he or she has to say about it.

Good luck!
References :
Stay eating healthy, and whether you gain, or lose, as long as you eat what you should, and the baby is not in distress, you are fine!
References :
you can't intentionally lose weight during pregnancy - that's really really unhealthy for your baby
but that doesn't mean you can't keep eating healthy - make an effort to skip the ice cream cravings (trust me baby really isn't looking for ice cream)
this way you won't lose weight but you won't gain too much more than what the baby will add
some women go right back to their original weight when they give birth
just stay healthy and get back to losing when you're baby is safe and healthy in your arms
References :
Not all women gain weight during pregnancy.
I didn't gain weight with one of my pregnancies, instead a I lost weight. It wasn't on purpose though. It was because of a lot of nausea and the only thing I could keep down was veggies and fruits. My daughter was a healthy 8 lbs 14 oz.
This is definitely something you would want to talk with your doctor about though. Because we don't know how big you are or how it will affect your child.
References :
Mommy to 3 and 1 on the way
