How do you feel about vegan diets for dogs?

February 28th, 2013 20 comments

I’ve heard of people putting their dogs on vegan diets, homemade or store bought food, and the dogs do well and live healthy lives.

I’m vegan, but my dogs always got meat – first with dog food, and later on I switched them to a homemade diet using organic, local free range meats. I wouldn’t consider using a vegan diet until it’s been somehow proven that it’s healthy and safe for them, although of course there are ethical issues that come up with using meat, which is why I settled for free range ones.

So – what are your opinions on it? Would you ever feed your dog a vegan diet?

i had my jack russell terrier on a vegetarian diet for many years … she developed severe allergies when she was just over a year old and nothing the vet did or prescribed helped including multiple changes in food … she was even put on kangaroo kibble as a unique protein source … her allergies were so bad she was on prednisone every other day just to keep her mildly comfortable … i brought her to a doggie allergist where she was tested (cost close to a thousand dollars for consultation and testing, plus almost a full year of immunotherapy) and she was found to be allergic to most animal proteins … and while i would not normally take nutrition advice from a vet, i saw the report saying what she was sensitive to and the specialist suggested a vegetarian diet … which worked like a charm … off all medication, no more traumatizing her skin from excessive itching, no more recurrent ear infections, paw problems, etc., she became a normal dog … and she thrived on that diet for many years, very active in agility, flyball, fetch, frisbee, and could run beside my bike for miles, all eating nothing but a vegetarian diet … dogs are omnivores regardless of how many people scream carnivore and protein is protein … the average adult pet dog requires approximately 18% protein to be healthy and every well known vegetarian dog food out there meets or exceeds that protein percentage … i probably would not have put my dog on a vegetarian diet just because, but there are dogs who do truly suffer major animal protein allergies and if a vegetarian diet helps with that, i see nothing wrong with it … vegan might be too limiting … the only vegan kibble i used was made by wysong and it was just a bonus topper to her other kibble and even the bag said that … and btw, a raw diet is only around 21% in protein, hardly different from a vegetarian diet …

EXTREME WEIGHT LOSS DIET SECRET SHARED. LOSE 15LBS IN 3 WEEKS.

February 20th, 2013 17 comments

http://tinyurl.com/extremeweightlossdietnow

This is my secret extreme weight loss diet video to show off my extreme weight loss diet, 15lbs in 3 weeks. I got into a bad habit of eating lots of junk food and drinking too much, not really paying attention to my health. I ended up tired, overweight, had bad skin and hair, my stomach was always bloated and painful..a total mess basically so I decided enough was enough and that I’d have to sort it out.

I had a search online for a diet and most of them I found were really boring, hard work, involved exercise or you had to buy lots of expensive ingredients and I just didn’t want to do a diet like that. I wanted something easy to follow, that didn’t involve eating the same thing over and over again (like the cabbage soup diet, yuk!) and wasn’t going to cost me a fortune just to lose weight. It took a while to find one but eventually I got lucky and found something that looked really simple and straight forward and had some good recommendations, apparently even some of the celebs are using this to lose weight so it must be good, right? It was a secret extreme weight loss diet.

I started it the next day and I really enjoyed it, the first week was dead simple and I felt good the whole time, was never hungry or craving junk food and already I knew it was going to be beneficial. I checked my weight loss at the end of the first week and I’d lost 6lbs, I was amazed that this secret extreme weight loss diet had worked.

People told me I was looking better and healthier already. I continued with the extreme weight loss diet plan and after week 3 I’d lost 15lbs, talk about extreme weight loss. I’m now at my target weight and feel amazing. I’m going to stick with the diet because actually it’s more than just a diet, it’s a healthy eating plan that I enjoy following. I don’t think I need to lose weight still but I’m happy to remain healthy and keep my weight loss off. You should try the extreme weight loss diet.

What are some diets and workouts that work?

February 20th, 2013 3 comments

I need to lose weight but it’s hard when you don’t know any diets or workouts that work. I don’t eat a lot and I do go to the gym but I need a diet and workout that helped people lose weight., thanks in advance!

I have read good things about the paleo diet (caveman diet), but you have to have a strong enough will power to do it. Also with that diet you have to really watch everything you eat to make sure you are getting enough vitamins.

I don’t use this diet though, I just eat healthy, but I have no "forbidden" foods. It is easier to stick with a diet when you don’t feel like you can’t eat your favourite foods. I still have ice cream and sweets, but in moderation.

you should also make sure you are getting enough calories, to few calories an cause weight gain because your body thinks it is starving and will store anything you eat as fat.

Drink lots of water. No more pop if you are serious about losing weight fast.

For working out, anything that gets your heart rate up is good. Some people can handle the mundane running on a treadmill, or running out side. Others prefer more engaging activities like zumba or boxing. Try a few different thing to see what you like.

Don’t forget to do weight training. Big muscles increase metabolism.

Good luck!

What should a meal plan for an athlete be for proper nutrition?

February 20th, 2013 1 comment

I’m thinking of trying 6 meals a day and making sure to add in snacks pre and post workouts, i’m just not sure what foods to eat. Most people think I eat a lot in restaurants but I don’t think i’m eating enough. Most think I’m eating super healthy, but I don’t think I’m eating right. I’m highly athletic, and showing major signs of malnutrition. I’m always hungry right after I eat. And I eat typically 2 times a day. Every morning I eat a big jug of freshly squeezed vegetables and fruits, most days I forget lunch, and an example of dinner might be a stir fry or cheese and rice crackers or I go out since I’m usually away from home and order something healthy but not organic like I prefer. I can’t eat most dairy or any gluten. I eat raw salmon about twice a week. I don’t think I’m getting enough complex carbs, or protein, or fats in my diet. I can’t afford meat, other than salmon and shrimps and an occasional chicken. Since I’m so active how can i manage to eat enough during a day, and what should my meal plan at each meal consist of?

Minimally you should be eating three meals and three snacks. Have eggs at breakfast or rice bread toasted with peanut butter. Eat more beans – canned beans are very inexpensive, and if you can learn to cook the beans yourself from the dried beans they are even less expensive, are great protein and are very nutritious. Start making some of your own breads using a variety of the flours that you can use – almond flour, rice flour and so on. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. Eat your salmon and shrimp at least 5 or 6 times a week.

What are some good diet recipes?

February 20th, 2013 9 comments

My husband is on a diet and I need some good low-fat and low-calorie recipes to cook for dinner. We’re getting a little tired of salads! Any help would be great!

Mango Chicken Serves 4
4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
3 C orange juice
2 mangos, peeled and sliced
2 T honey
1 tsp. grated fresh ginger

Grill chicken till nicely browned. While chicken is grilling, mix orange juice, honey and ginger. When chicken is about 3/4 cooked, remove from grill and place in a large skillet. Add orange juice mixture and cook until liquid reduces and chicken completes cooking, about 10 minutes. Add mango slices just before removing from heat, so they warm, but not cook. Serve over rice or couscous.

Spicy Tropical Chicken Serves 4
1/4 C lime juice
1/2 C pineapple juice
2 -3 tablespoons minced jalapeno peppers
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 C minced shallots
1/4 C light soy sauce
2 lbs. boneless chicken tenders

Combine all ingredients except chicken to create a marinade. Put the chicken in a large plastic zipper food storage bag and pour the marinade over the chicken. Let marinate in the refrigerator for at 2-6 hours, turning occasionally. Drain chicken and discard marinade. Grill, broil or saute the chicken as desired until fully cooked, about 10 minutes.

Florida red snapper

Serving Size : 6

2 Pounds Red snapper — fillets
1/4 Cup Grated onion
2 Tablespoons Orange juice
2 Tablespoons Lemon juice
2 Teaspoons Grated orange rind
1/2 Teaspoon Salt

Thaw fillets if frozen. Cut fish into 6 portions. Place in a single layer, skin side down, in a well-greased baking dish, 12x8x2 inches.

Combine onion, orange and lemon juice, orange rind, and salt. Pour over fish; cover and place in refrigerator to marinate 30 minutes.

Sprinkle fish with nutmeg and pepper. Bake in a moderate oven, 350F, for 25 to 30 minutes or until fish flakes easily when tested with fork.

"Grilled" Glazed Tuna Steaks
