EVER WONDERED WHAT OUR ANCESTORS USED TO EAT?
EVER GIVEN A THOUGHT HOW OUR FOREFATHERS SURVIVED WITHOUT MODERN AMENITIES TO COOK FOOD AND STILL MANAGED TO DO ALL THAT INTENSE PHYSICAL WORK?

You are not the first person to be pondering on these baffling questions. Thousands of years ago, people were taller, slender, athletic, healthier, and more versatile. This is because people from the Paleo generation had a healthier immune system, due to the natural fresh food they ate, and the kind of work they did in efforts for survival. During this era, people ate fresh meat, fish, vegetables, fruits, and other natural foods. Their foods were packed with all the natural vitamins and nutrition that their bodies needed. They consumed foods which had more calories, but less fat for their energy needs, each day. Their regular diet helped them get the prescribed controlled weight and it contributed to maintain their natural strength, mind power, and endurance.

COMPARE YOURSELF TO THOSE PEOPLE AND TELL ME WHERE DO YOU STAND?

Today, thousands of individuals are overweight, high in cholesterol, stressed, suffering from depression, listlessness, and dying from diseases that can actually be prevented. The reasons behind such situations depend on the quality of food they consume, and the quantity of their daily food intake. The immune system simply protects threats against various diseases, and how to overcome them will depend upon the proper diet.

BUT NOW THERE IS A WAY TO BRING BACK THOSE OLD DAYS! YOU TOO FAN BEW FIT AND STRONG LIKE YOUR ANCESTORS AND BE AS GOOD LOOKING AND HEALTHY TOO! HOW? BY ADOPTING WHAT IS KNOWN AS THE PALEO DIET!

This diet plan originated millions of years ago, and it is referred to as the “Cavemen”, “Stone Age” or the “Hunter Gatherer” diet. This diet is known as our ancestors’ way of eating. It will help you avoid numerous diseases and chronic illnesses of our times. It helps the prevention of obesity, hypertension, diabetes, intestinal problems, autoimmune illnesses, and depression. It also acts as an acne treatment for people with skin problems. The Paleo Diet weight loss is an effective way for anyone to lose weight and keep it off. The diet is based on what people for millions of years consumed. It’s a low carbohydrate diet, but is based on what people historically ate before all the heavily processed foods we eat today were invented.

Atkins Diet Recipes: Best Low Carb BBQ Sauce

March 1st, 2013 25 comments

** Recipe included in my new low carb, gluten free cookbook, Low Carbing Among Friends. Please check it out at our website @ http://www.amongfriends.us **

In partnership with FaveDiets ( http://www.FaveDiets.com ) recipe site, I have been mourning the loss of all good low carb BBQ sauces, and the remainder commercial ones haven’t met any of my expectations for a rich, thick sauce. I went allrecipes.com and tried a few of them there — converting them to low carb. I came up with one that met all my requirements, and it worked great for my New Year’s Eve appetizer and slow cooked BBQ ribs.

Low Carb BBQ Sauce
(derived from Big Al’s K.C. Bar-B-Q Sauce Recipe – Allrecipes.com)

Ingredients
* 1 cup Low Carb Ketchup (either Heinz or Linda’s “Better Than Heinz” Recipe – http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/evenbetter_heinz_ketchup.html)
* 1 cup tomato sauce
* 1/2 cup Splenda or liquid equivalent (preferred)
* 1/2 cup vinegar
* 1/4 cup unsulfured molasses
* 2 teaspoons liquid smoke
* 1 tablespoons butter
* 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
* 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
* 1/2 teaspoon paprika
* Dash of chili powder
* Dash ground cinnamon
* 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
* 1/2 teaspoon salt
* 1/2 teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper

Makes ~3 Cups of BBQ (approximately 48 1TBS Servings at 2g net carbs per Tablespoons)

What are some good diet recipes?

February 20th, 2013 9 comments

My husband is on a diet and I need some good low-fat and low-calorie recipes to cook for dinner. We’re getting a little tired of salads! Any help would be great!

Mango Chicken Serves 4
4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
3 C orange juice
2 mangos, peeled and sliced
2 T honey
1 tsp. grated fresh ginger

Grill chicken till nicely browned. While chicken is grilling, mix orange juice, honey and ginger. When chicken is about 3/4 cooked, remove from grill and place in a large skillet. Add orange juice mixture and cook until liquid reduces and chicken completes cooking, about 10 minutes. Add mango slices just before removing from heat, so they warm, but not cook. Serve over rice or couscous.

Spicy Tropical Chicken Serves 4
1/4 C lime juice
1/2 C pineapple juice
2 -3 tablespoons minced jalapeno peppers
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 C minced shallots
1/4 C light soy sauce
2 lbs. boneless chicken tenders

Combine all ingredients except chicken to create a marinade. Put the chicken in a large plastic zipper food storage bag and pour the marinade over the chicken. Let marinate in the refrigerator for at 2-6 hours, turning occasionally. Drain chicken and discard marinade. Grill, broil or saute the chicken as desired until fully cooked, about 10 minutes.

Florida red snapper

Serving Size : 6

2 Pounds Red snapper — fillets
1/4 Cup Grated onion
2 Tablespoons Orange juice
2 Tablespoons Lemon juice
2 Teaspoons Grated orange rind
1/2 Teaspoon Salt
1/8 Teaspoon Nutmeg

Thaw fillets if frozen. Cut fish into 6 portions. Place in a single layer, skin side down, in a well-greased baking dish, 12x8x2 inches.

Combine onion, orange and lemon juice, orange rind, and salt. Pour over fish; cover and place in refrigerator to marinate 30 minutes.

Sprinkle fish with nutmeg and pepper. Bake in a moderate oven, 350F, for 25 to 30 minutes or until fish flakes easily when tested with fork.

"Grilled" Glazed Tuna Steaks

Serving Size : 4

1/3 cup Dry Sherry
1 tablespoon Ginger Root — minced
1 tablespoon Low Sodium Soy Sauce
1 teaspoon Honey
2/3 tablespoon Garlic — minced
1 pound Tuna Steak — cut in 4 pieces

Combine Sherry, Gingerroot, Soy Sauce, Honey & Garlic in A 1 Cup Glass Measure. Microwave Uncovered At High 1 Min. OR Until Mixture Boils. Cool Slightly. Place Tuna in An 11 X 7 X 1 1/2 in. Baking Dish. Pour Marinade Over tuna. Cover & Chill 2 Hours. Remove Tuna From Marinade, Reserving Marinade. Preheat A 10 Inch. Browning Skillet At High For 8 Min. Arrange Tuna On Hot Browning Skillet With Thickest Portions To The outside. Microwave Uncovered At High For 2 Min.

Turn Steaks Over & Baste With Marinade. Microwave At High For 1 1/2 To 2 Min. Let Stand Covered 2 Min.
Serve Immediately With Warm Marinade. (May Also Grill Outdoors.)

How can I get more fruit and Veg into my meals?

February 18th, 2013 17 comments

Hi, i dont like most fruit and i dont like most veg, sometimes ill when i feel like eating vegetables ill eat them but other times i dont. As im going into the new year i want to change my eating habits for the better. But i know fruit and veg play an important part in this. I dont mind vegetables mixed in with meals but i dont like them on there own.
If anyone has any ideas on how to get them into my diet, and recipes or suggestions welcome. ?

Try drinking V8 or V8 Splash(I like this better). It contains a lot of vitamins. Also have some salads if you like those, you can put fruit in them too and have a dressing you like to cover some of the taste. You can also take Juice Plus supplements, they contain whole foods either in a pill form or "gummy candy" form. They are easy to take and have a lot of nutrients in them.

Where can i find raw food recipes that have ingredients that I can pronounce? Please simplify my shopping!?

February 16th, 2013 4 comments

I am trying to switch to a raw diet but every recipe i find has lots of things in it that I don’t know what are, and probably will not be able to find in my small town. I need tasty recipes using common food items.
Let me re-interate i asked for recipes. I am fully capable of saying "Carrot" and I am also capable of eating a "Carrot" but "Carrot" is not a recipe. I am looking for meals to prepare for my family.

There’s a book by Jennifer Cornbleet on easy raw recipes for one or two. Many vegan shopping sites do have raw items, and there’s also a raw foods website, www.naturalzing.com. There’s also a website called From Sad to Raw that has fairly simple raw recipes.

What should i feed my dog since i want to stop using commercial food?

February 14th, 2013 11 comments

I have a bichon and she is older I want to stop using her commercial food because i no longer trust it event tho they say its safe does anyone know of good diets and recipes for dogs I want to keep her healthy and full of the nutrients she needs thnks….

Making your own food is VERY time consuming and you should take her to the vet more often to make sure she is getting all the nutrients. I tryed this and my vet just told me to stop because there was always something wrong and my dog wasnt getting what he really needed.

So I looked on Y!A and found out about some REALLY good dog food. Theres IS good dog food outthere with NO wheat gluten (which is why there was a recall) no fillers, by products or corn.

Blue Buffalo:
http://www.bluebuff.com/

Canidae:

Home page new

Innova/California Natural, Karma:
http://www.naturapet.com/

Chicken Soup for the Pet Lovers Soul:
http://www.chickensoupforthepetloverssoul.com/

and if you REALLY want to go organic:
TimberWolf Organics:

Home

(You can put chicken and cooked meat in there with the food)

Just look through some of those and see which one you can find near you and which is good on your wallet. Making your own dog is can be expensive and you can really be putting your dogs health at risk. These foods have NO WHEAT so they will never be on the recall as they are with their own company.

Hope this helps

I’m pregnant and need cheap & healthy recipes or meal ideas for myself and fiancee. We have $150 for groceries?

February 12th, 2013 7 comments

I’m almost 2 months pregnant and my fiancee and I are on a really tight budget with planning a wedding and getting ready for a baby. I’m latin so I cook with lots of rice and chicken, but wanted some more ideas on cheap foods since my soon to be hubby is caucasian and wanted to cook traditional american meals for him too. I’m trying to include more fruit and vegetables in our diets too. Any recipes to share? Thanks
$150 for the month

Hi Jessenia

Have a look at the site below which is being developed with budget cooking in mind. The idea is that you cook a main meal and then cook an entirely new meal from the leftovers. This way you save on time and money.

The November Meal Plan is now available and is designed with the seasons mind – so lots of Butternut Squash recipes! Also lots of Healthy Thanksgiving Recipes.

There are also freezer ideas so that as you get close to having your baby, you can stock up the freezer with meals.

Hope that you get some inspiration and good luck on your precious journey.

What some health alkaline diet recipes?

February 10th, 2013 2 comments

I am trying to lose weight and become healtier. I have been reading about the benefits of a diet high in alkaline foods, but it looks difficult to follow. Can you give me some alkaline diet recipes?

Anytime you change to a new diet, it is helpful to find recipes to get you started. Once this becomes a habit, you will likely develop some recipes yourself.

Green Smoothies:
In a blender, layer 1 cup ice, 1 cup water, 6-8 frozen strawberries, and 3-4 handfuls organic baby green spinach. Blend until it reaches the desired consistency. You may need to add more water.

Salad:
Any mixture of greens: spinach, romaine, leafy green lettuce, bok choy or other greens can be the base. Add to that chopped raw veggies of your choice. Tomatoes, avocadoes, cucumbers, celery, carrots, radishes, onions are all alkaline. Eat as many as you desire. Top with a simple vinaigrette made from 1/2 c raw apple cider vinegar, blended with 2/3 c virgin olive oil, and 1/2 c honey. Add herbs, spices, sea salt to taste.

Kale Salad:
Kale is a dense green and needs to be worked with to eat raw in a salad. Tear the kale in small pieces, drizzle with olive oil. Gently massage the olive oil into the kale leaves. This makes them softer and easier to chew. Drizzle with a light vinaigrette, toss lightly. Add 2 cups of chopped veggies, such as onions and tomatoes. Garnish with a handful of raisins.
