Concerns in developing an eating disorder?

let me explain… Im 26 5.8 and currently
weigh 80 kilos/176 lbs.
I started a healthy eating programme eating
anywhere between 1200/1500 calories a
day.
over the last couple of weeks I have since
found myself limiting my intake to 900
sometimes as low as 400/500.
I no my stomach has shrunk and that is why
I don’t feel as hungry.
I’m not currently under weight..I’m actually
ever so slightly overweight.but nothing
drastic.
my problem is I have found my self
obsessivly researching so called
"thinspiration" sites and looking at pictures.
I’m aware that some people can develop
eating disorders through severe dieting but i
tell myself ill stop if it gets out of hand.
please bare in mind I’m not a teenager
seeking attention I’m a grown women with
genuine concerns.
should I be worried at this stage? I have lost
4lbs in 5 days.

Losing 4 lbs in 5 days is not healthy. Mostly likely you aren’t drinking enough water, so most of the weight lost is water weight, although your daily caloric intake is below a health level as well.

When people are as determined to lose weight as you are, they can become obsessive about it. That can definitely lead to unhealthy diet and exercise habits, and feeling like you’re never quite thin enough. It’s easy to think that once you’re satisfied, you’ll stop. But in reality, most people who think that way are never really satisfied. They keep thinking they would be happier if they could just lose another 5 or 10 lbs. Losing weight is actually not as much about restricting food intake as you would think. The main thing is to expend more calories than you take in. But you can still fill yourself up on fresh fruits and vegetables. Most fruits and vegetables have lots of fiber, which makes you feel full, but take more calories to digest than they actually have in them. And make sure to drink lots of water, because hydration is also very important for weight loss. So is exercise.

It doesn’t sound to me like you have an actual eating disorder. At least not yet. When a person has an eating disorder, they look in the mirror and see themselves as fat, no matter what their actual weight is. They literally look at themselves and see "fat rolls" that aren’t really there. It’s a mental condition as well as physical. It’s something that never really goes away either. I developed anorexia in my early teens and though I’ve been in recovery for years, I still have the tendencies.

So, I don’t think you have an eating disorder but I do think you’re dieting is getting a little out of hand. Losing weight so quickly is not healthy and actually lessens the chance that you’ll be able to keep the weight off. You’ll likely just get sick of restricting yourself so much that you’ll start binging and go back to how you were. Learning to eat healthy on a daily basis takes time, but once you get in the habit you can sustain it permanently without starving yourself.
