How often should I weigh and measure myself?

I’ve started a healthier eating plan and have incorporated exercise into my daily routine. How often should I weigh myself and take my body measurements? I don’t want to get discouraged by daily ups and downs.

18 months ago I started regular physical training in the gym, weight training mainly. I was a bit fat and bloated when I began. I lost a lot of fat, but gained muscle, so whenever I looked at the scales I didn’t notice much change. However, my body has undergone a radical transformation, despite the fact my weight hasn’t changed much.
From my personal experience, regular weighing doesn’t do much good. Continue with regular exercise and healthy eating, it is not magic, if you burn up more calories (through exercise) than you consume, you MUST lose fat, it is against the laws of nature for this not to happen. But for myself, I prefer the let the mirror do the talking because muscle weighs more than fat, and I have gained muscle.

My own advice: keep up a program which is sustainable. If it is too harsh, you might toss the whole thing away all together. Focus on doing something, keeping it up (regularity is the key) and making slow improvements, in both amount of exercise and cutting back on calories. If you never reward yourself you run the risk of despising your new regime and giving it the boot. However if you start noticing improvements this can give you the boost in self confidence to keep it up and continuing to improve!

I realise it may be different for a male than a female, but the basic principles remain the same. I train 4 or 5 times a week, and feel great every time! I try to watch what I eat, but I love eating so I always give myself treats. Also, I train so often that I burn up a lot of calories, so I can afford to!

Good luck, don’t be obsessed with the scales, they can lead to disillusion, stick with basics over time and you will win!

Always weigh yourself at the same time everyday, usually in the morning right when you get up and after you have urinated. Body measurements can be done on a weekly basis.

every week is the best for weighing and every month is suitable for measuring your body.
