There are many reasons why we should promote healthy eating for children and young people.
1) Children in the growing age need to eat healthy food to help maintain their body.
2) Healthy food gives us the vitamins and proteins that we need.
3) Healthy food are needed for a healthy and balanced diet.
4) Healthy food make you live longer!
5) Some healthy food are used to treat diseases.

    Calcium
A study done by the Children’s Nutrition Research Center suggests that a lack of calcium can result in low bone strength. Weak bone strength and low levels of calcium can lead to osteoporosis in later years (see Resources).

    Iron
A lack of iron can have serious effects on a child’s body. Iron deficiency can lead to being constantly tired or weak, irritable, lack an appetite and more.

    Breakfast
Breakfast is a great way to start the day for a child. Most cereals are bolstered with extra vitamins and minerals for a well-balanced meal. Kids who eat breakfast have more energy and do better in school.

    Misconceptions
Certain foods believed to be bad for you are actually good. The potato is rich in fiber, high in vitamin C and only has about 110 calories (see Resources).

    Vegetables
Vegetables contain important nutrients known as antioxidants. Dr. C.Y. Lee of Cornell University did a study of red cabbage and found that cabbages were very high in antioxidants. This can reduce the risk of cancer (see Resources).

As a child, your diet becomes a habit that follows you into adulthood. If, as a child, you eat a lot of fast food and snack on cookies, candy, chips, et cetera, you’ll develop a dependency on these foods. They are what you’ll turn to when you’re hungry. Honestly, it doesn’t matter that much when you’re a little kid. But then you grow older, and you start wanting to look all nice and fit, and (much more importantly) you want to be healthy. If you grew up eating junk, it’s going to be a lot harder for you to adapt to a nutritious diet. You’ll likely continue eating a lot of ‘bad’ foods, which can lead to weight gain and subsequently problems such as obesity or type II diabetes (which isn’t to say you can’t ever have junk food or sweets; cutting foods out of your diet altogether leads to cravings and basically just really sucks. But, as they say, moderation is key). If you’re raised with a healthy diet impressed upon your brain, however, you’re likely to grow up eating well.

Basically, we promote healthy eating for children and young people so that they can be healthy children and grow up to be healthy adults.
