If I do the Disney Meal Plan, are two adults allowed to split a meal at a sit down restaurant?

I am looking at booking a vacation to Disney World soon and they are offering free meal plans with it during the time we will be going. I am trying to figure out if we need to upgrade or not. The meal plan comes with 1 quick service, 1 sit down, and 1 snack. I was wondering if me and my husband are allowed to split meals at sit down restaurants or if Disney does not allow you to. Thanks!

To my knowledge, Disney doesn’t seem to have a problem with people splitting a plate. (There might be a charge to do so– but it doesn’t seem explicitly forbidden.)

It isn’t allowed at Buffet or Family-Style restaurants. It’s fine at Quick Service places and certain table service restaurants, but again, the buffet and family style cannot be split. http://www.passporter.com/articles/diningplanrevisited.asp

Anyone in the room with you will also be on the dining plan. I’m not sure why you would be sharing a meal if each of you gets those two meal credits per day. So, I’m not sure if you’re just "budgeting" your credits for another experience or not, but it seems alright.

I don’t think you can buy the meal plan just for one of you. Is that what you are thinking to do. You both are staying at the same room – you both need to get the dining plan or both don’t get it.

IF you are getting the free dining plan, they BOTH of you get 1 quick serve, 1 sit down and 1 snack per day. There is no need to split a meal. this is enough food for both of you in one day.

I know you will find this hard to believe but you will have more then enough meals during your trip with that basic plan. My family of four has used that same meal several times on our trips. Your lucky to get it for free.

We are all pretty big eaters at home but when your out and about in the parks you will be suprised how your eating habits change. You will not want to use a sit down meal for each meal since table service restaurants are a lot about the experience and take a couple of hours. This includes buffets.

We have never ran out or had to pay for extra meals. Actually we usually end up having a couple meals and a bunch of snacks left at the end where we end up using to buy snacks for the trip home.

To answer the basic question. You can split meals at table service but not at Buffets and family style and quick service is not going to care if you only buy one meal although I have never seen a quick service meal that was large enough for two.

If you upgrade meal plans the entire room needs to upgrade. You can’t upgrade. I speak from experience that the free will be more then enough.

You’re not supposed to, but you can get away with it.

I assume you are questioning if you should upgrade your meal package to a more deluxe one since with any Disney Dining Plan, all people in the room are required to be on it. There is more than enough food for even a big eater on the plan you will be getting. Most people don’t eat a snack, a lunch including meal and dessert and a dinner including meal and dessert every day (especially since the most portion sizes are large.) You can split a meal and use one credit whenever you like. There is really never a problem with that at the restaurants, and many places will even divide the plate for you in the kitchen before serving it. This way you can save credits to use for Signature Dining which requires 2 credits per person. Also, some quick service places give so much food that you can even split that meal. Take a look at disboards.com. They have a whole forum on the dining plan including the best places to go to split meals to save credits. Oh, and just to clarify the meal plan isn’t exactly "free" with the free dining promo because you are paying rack rates for your room and when the promo is not "free dining" the promo they offer is usually a less than rack rate price.
