How come some Africans can get very old on a poor diet?

January 11th, 2013 4 comments

We keep hearing about these healthy diets and that you have to consume enough vitamins and stuff everyday but how come some people in Africa are able to become well in their 70s without a varied diet (usually relying only on grains, milk and meat). Lacking fruits, vegetables and fiber.

What is an Alkaline Balance Diet? What would I have to do to maintain an alkaline balance diet?

January 9th, 2013 2 comments

Recently I have been struggling with frequent colds, headaches and nasal congestion. I feel that eating less acidic foods might help with quieting the symptoms a little and after looking for some diets I found some information about the alkaline balance diet. Why does the diet work and kind of foods should I try to avoid and which kinds should I try to eat more of to start and keep one of these diets?

Eat more fresh fruit and vegetables as well as nuts and tubers.

The basic premise behind the alkaline balance diet is that because our modern diet is more heavy on ingredients like salt, cheeses, meat, and sugar our blood’s pH level, or level of acidity, has generally risen over time. Our distant ancestors ate a very simple diet consisting mainly of unprocessed meat, fruits, vegetables, and roots but as soon as agricultural technology emerged their diet began to change. With the domestication of livestock such as cows or goats came the advent of dairy products like milk, butter and cheese as well as an increase in the amount of meat that was eaten. When stone milling tools came about refined grains and bread products entered the diet. The industrial revolution saw the consumption of sugar and sugar based products like molasses and various syrups increase sharply. When these kinds of foods are digested and metabolized, they release acids into the gastrointestinal tract. raising the blood’s pH level slightly.

I recommend you check out a site like: http://www.acidalkalinediet.com
They have a good alkaline food chart also: http://www.acidalkalinediet.com/Alkaline-Foods-Chart.htm

Some believe that the body operates ideally in a certain pH range and that if the blood is too acidic that it can inhibit the absorption of essential minerals such as potassium, calcium, and sodium. This can manifest itself in symptoms including more frequent cold or flu symptoms, excessive mucous generation, headaches, or lack of energy. The alkaline balance diet advocates eating a more natural diet of nuts, fresh fruit and vegetables, roots, tubers and cutting things like meat, sugar, salt and cheese out of the diet entirely.

does this meal plan really work for people to lose weight?

December 4th, 2012 3 comments

The meal plan of eating dinner at breakfast lunch as lunch and eating breakfast at dinner time, does this really help to burn fat and help lose weight? I have school so i dont eat for about 5 hours from breakfast to lunch so will this diet help me stay full and help me lose weight!??

10 points best answer!
and i will report spam or rude comments.

Meal plan to stay full & lose weight is: your breakfast should be the heaviest meal of the day and your dinner, the lightest. So, the answer to your question depends on what you usually have for breakfast & dinner.

If you usually have light breakfast & heavy dinner, then, yes, replacing your breakfast with dinner & dinner with breakfast will help you to stay full and lose weight. But, if you are already having heavy breakfast and light dinner, then, you’ll have to change the type of food you eat. Whatever you eat, make sure its healthy (like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, lean meat, eggs).

What kind of diet should I have with ankylosing spondylitis?

November 6th, 2012 2 comments

I have heard many people tell me about different diets for my arthritis. I want to know one that will actually help me. Do you know?

You’re going to want to choose a diet high and prominent in vitamins and calcium. My best advice, eat healthy. The food pyramid can be slightly adjusted to fit just about all health concerns. Below, I will list the FDA’s guidelines to healthy diets.

This is a quick link to a food pyramid. I will list some additional guidelines below:

http://bentlyr.files.wordpress.com/2008/07/low-fat-food_pyramid_usdaj.jpg

* Note: FDA Food Pyramid was recently adjusted, but not to the point of being 100% different.

I highly recommend you take in more dairy products than recommended, but assure that these products are low in fat. Like a calve, we need some of the nutrients they need to promote strong and healthy bones. It’s not all about bones, though… it’s also about the connective tissues and muscles surrounding your bones. Vitamin A, Vitamin D, calcium… these are things that we need!

I also recommend an increase in lean beef and fish. By saying lean beef, I mean petite sirloin steaks. These steaks have protein, and protein is good for our muscles. It is also conservative meat portions… stuff that makes the doctor and your body smile. I cannot stress enough how good fish is for people… the amino acids, vitamins, and fatty acids with it are not only important for blood health, but healthy for bone marrow because of it being vascular. If you cannot eat fish or you just don’t like it, there are vitamins available to supplement fish. If you eat any meat, assure that it is fish!

Continue with your intake in the pyramid of fruits, vegetables, and grains. Eat many fruits and vegetables! Replace your snacks with fruits and vegetables! Your body (and, in many places, your wallet) will thank you. These give you natural sugars and calories to promote good digestion, which in return will affect how you feel.

When it comes to energy, look beyond coffee and sugar and into whole grain foods. Whole grain foods conduct into natural energy that your bones and your muscles will love.

When it comes to arthritis, it’s good to promote all around health. With these guidelines from the FDA transpired to my personal recommendations for orthopaedic health, I am confident that this diet will prove to be efficient.

Also, I would like for you to check into different exercises that you can do at home. I, as a personal sufferer of arthritis and spine pain, can say that these are some of the things that keep me sane.

These exercises will promote strength and longevity.

I hope that this answer was beneficial for you. I have a heart for those who suffer from arthritis, especially the narrowing of your spine. If you have any questions, please e-mail me via justincurtis101@live.com. God bless you, I hope you feel better soon!

What is a good exercise and meal plan for a 15 year old girl?

October 12th, 2012 1 comment

I’m 15 and i want to try and lose weight. I only want to lose 20-30 pounds because ive been told that is within my healthy weight range. I’m 4’11 and about 145 pounds. I want to start yoga but i’m worried that the meal plan will be hard with a house full of unhealthy people.

Importance of Weight Management

During the teenage years your daughter is developing habits she will maintain for life. This includes her relationship with food. Helping your daughter make healthy decisions now will help her to make healthy decisions as an adult. Teens who are overweight are more likely to become obese adults and more likely to have health problems like heart disease, heart attack and diabetes as adults. The gradual weight management process will help your teen solidify a healthy relationship with food and continue this into adulthood.

Diet

A 15-year-old girl is still growing and needs her body needs the vitamins and nutrients that come from eating a well-balanced diet. Your teen should be eating from the grain, fruit, vegetable, protein, dairy and fat group each day. Your 15-year-old should consume anywhere from 1,800-2,400 calories per day. If your child is extremely active she’ll need to consume near the top range of 2,400 calories, but if she isn’t very active 1,800 calories may be a better fit. Start somewhere in the middle and track progress as she goes if you are unsure. To help your teen change her diet, begin by making small changes. For example, help her pick fruits and vegetables for healthy snacks instead of getting food from the vending machine. Make sure your teen eats breakfast every morning. Try out different recipes like an egg sandwich on whole wheat or yogurt and fruit.
Exercise

Help your teen examine her exercise habits. If she’s involved in sports, she may already meet her exercise requirements. If not, it may just take some schedule adjusting to make it a priority. Your teen should aim to get about 60 minutes of physical activity each day. However, this doesn’t have to be continuous exercise. For example, if your teen walks 15 minutes to school she will already have 30 minutes of physical activity each day. Teens need both aerobic and strength training as part of their exercise routine. Make exercise a family activity: Go for bike rides, hiking, jogging, play tennis or another sport. You don’t want to force your teen into exercise, but rather you want to show her it can be an enjoyable part of her day.

June 10th, 2011 2 comments

What foods are best to eat while exercising or on a healthy eating process much like a diet, to loose weight for young, teenage girls.

Eat a balanced diet, not just fruits and vegetables. Add some lean meats (fish, chicken, turkey) to your diet because you will need protein. And eat foods that are high in fiber to keep you satisfied. Mostly all fruits and vegetables are high in fiber. Beans, nuts and seeds, whole grain bread and pasta, brown rice, bran cereal, oatmeal are all high sources of fiber. And lastly, remember to drink lots of water!

June 7th, 2011 3 comments

I want a quick 1-7 day quick diet to jump start my regular diet. Just to flush out toxins and to get my body ready for diet and workout. Please help

changing your diet to only healthy foods is the best thing you can do and will ensure you will lose weight if combine with walking everyday especially.

you can eat how much you like if you stay within these 3 guidelines and still lose fat naturally and gradually. You should lose 10lbs each month on average.

1.eat only steamed lean meats, eggs, healthy fruits ,vegetables, nuts, grains (Asian basmati or jasmine rice gives lots of energy and can be found at your local oriental/asian market or some super markets), & yogurt..2. drink only water, juice, & milk..3. walk or do some physical exercise 1-3 hour every day.

(btw, recommend you also to buy an electronic food steamer and a rice cooker ((Both Very cheap)) .which, used together make it very easy to prepare very nutritional, healthy meals ,,add a bit of olive oil , diced garlic, pepper, sliced lemon and spices on top of steamed vegeatables, fish or chicken to add more taste if wish as these are healthy too.)

Benefits Of Menu Planning

May 21st, 2011 2 comments

Menu planning starts a family on the road toward optimal health. Planning healthful delicious meals for a family might seem like a time consuming task. However the benefits of planning nutritious meals for the family far outweigh the time required to get it right.

Creating a weekly menu plan is important for providing the daily essential nutrients that the family needs to stay healthy. Menu planning can actually add hours to your week rather than reducing the time you have available. In addition, menu planning will save you money.

Menu planning will give you more time as you become a more efficient shopper. With a list of items needed for the entire weekly firmly in your hand. You can be in and out of the grocery store in less time. You will not be a victim to impulse shopping.

A small investment of time creating a simple menu plan will provide long term health benefits for the family. When you step into those mega grocery stores, you will have a plan to navigate away from the frozen pizzas and get to the good stuff.

The good stuff is hidden in the back of the store in the fruit and vegetable area of the super markets. Having a menu plan tells you exactly where to go and what aisles to avoid.

Once you get home with your stash of goodies, like fruits, vegetables and other nutrient rich foods, you will feel the need to get all those other foods out of the refrigerator and into the garbage.

The rotten tomatoes that were never added to the salad are history. The squishy vegetables that are can be thrown out. Next week the good stuff will be eaten. There will be no more waste in the kitchen.

When you pre-plan your grocery shopping, you only purchase what you need.

Organized meal plans will actually keep you sane. You will not have to hear that nagging phrase from the family asking “what’s for dinner?”. No more standing in front of the freezer, estimating the defrosting time for chicken.

The family and you will know in advance what the menu for the evening will be. Any family member old enough to eat can start the prepararation for the meal before you arrive home.

All the ingredients for the meal are available. The menu for the week is posted on the refrigerator. All that is left to do is to start the meal.

You won’t have to stop by the grocery store on your way home from work. There will be no reason to run to the neighbors for a cup of yogurt or an extra tomato for the salad you are making.

Once you plan your menus for the week, the next thing you’ll notice is that the whole kitchen is organized and you can prepare a meal in minutes.

The family members will pitch in to help get this healthy menu planning program on the road. When the family helps plan the weekly menus, they will look forward to having their favorite dishes.

Menu planning help you include the most nutritious foods into the weekly meals. Everyone in the family will start to feel better. The kids will have more energy and will be less likely to have those annoying mood swings.

The adults will also start to enjoy meal time with the family. Eating nutritious foods will have a positive impact on the entire family.

With a little planning getting a nutritious meal on the table becomes easier and more efficient over time.

A few minor adjustments to the family’s diet by eliminating the fast food junkets and replacing them with a home cooked healthy meal will result in some healthy rewards.

A menu plan can provide the family some quality time together. With just a little planning, meal time can become an enjoyable and healthy experience.

Quick Weight Loss For Teens -Tips to Help You Lose Weight Quick and Stay Healthy

May 21st, 2011 No comments

What is the best method for quick weight loss for teens? Many want to know this, and for good reason. Let’s face it, as more and more teens spend hours watching TV and being less active, being overweight is not all that uncommon.

Fortunately, there are some ways to help you lose weight quickly, so here are some tips to help you do so. First things first-while exercise is very important for quick weight loss for teens, eating is perhaps even more so in terms of not only losing weight, but also living a healthy life.

If you don’t eat the correct foods, your attempts to lose weight are shot. One of the first things to realize is that restricting your food intake is not the answer-it never is. This will only force you to be hungry all the time, which will result in binging from time to time, and therefore gaining even more weight than before.

Also, weight loss pills are definitely not the answer for easy weight loss for teens. You can lose all the weight you want from eating right and working out, and pills are an unnatural and unhealthy method to lose weight.

Sure, they might help you lose weight fast, but you will become more unhealthy in the process, and chances are, the results will not last.

Don’t ever starve yourself to lose weight fast. Sure, not eating will help you lose weight, but it is not sustainable, and as soon as you start eating again, the weight will come back with a vengeance, in all likelihood more than before.

Also, the kind of weight you lose with this method is muscle, and not fat, so you don’t want to starve yourself, as this simply is not a healthy or effective way to drop those pounds.

Detoxifying your body is the best method for quick weight loss for. What does this mean? I’d recommend you cleanse the system of anything unhealthy in it, by only consuming natural foods.

What does this mean? Any fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds, and some grains are fair game, but avoid meat and dairy products, and basically anything man made. Also, consider juicing vegetables daily, as this will help you get the benefit of the vegetables much quicker than you would by eating them.

This is a very effective method for getting rid of the harmful foods and toxins you will have in your body, and you might find yourself not feeling well during the process, which is actually a positive sign, because it means the body is getting rid of the harmful things inside it.

You might even consider only consuming fruits and vegetable juices during this time period, as these are the two best foods to detoxify your system. Sure, doing this will not be fun, but it’s only for a short time. there are many sites online that can recommend more about this, such as specific foods to eat and how long to go about this for.

This is only a temporary process, and I’d recommend you try and eat more natural foods in the future, as this is the best method to help you lose weight, along with an effective exercise program.
